How does a family volunteer with children during the holidays?

My husband and I live very far from any family and every year we spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with just our small children. As this is nice and special, we both wish to make this year and possibly the the future years memorable ones and do something meaningful.

Since our kids are small, we know that this will pose a roadblock to certain things.

But we wish to start volunteering our Thanksgiving and/or Christmas Eve nights to a shelter, hospice or nursing home.

Anyways, any other suggestions?

Has anyone ever cancelled their donation to Save The Children?

I know this is really crappy, and I hate to have to do it, too, but I’ve been sponsoring a child through Save the Children for several months and I just can’t afford it anymore so I need to cancel it. I was hoping to be able to do it painlessly through their website but that’s clearly not an option. I was wondering if anyone has any experience doing this with this charity and how they’d recommend I go about it (phone, mail?). I’m sure it’s going to be a huge pain in the ass but any advice would be appreciated.

Where can I work with terminally ill children?

I am a 16 year old girl and I really want to work with terminally ill children in hospitals. I feel like my gift is with children and I really want to help and just like hang out with them, play with them. Where can I do this and who do I contact. I know hospitals will have terminally ill childrens wards but I don’t know where to start looking. I live in NY (Rockland County)

Where should I donate to help kids have a Christmas?

As it is nearing the Christmas season, I realize that alot of parents out there can barely afford to pay the bills, let alone scape up some money to buy their kids Christmas presents.
I am 16, and I come from a good family, and make good money. But for some reason this made me sad knowing that kids out there will be sad on Christmas. Where can I donate some money to help them?

I really want to help orphen and abused kids. I am not financialy strong so I can’t give donations. I have two kids of my own.
